If you are looking for a longer-term, more intentional urban ministry experience - this opportunity is for you!
The primary purpose of the CSM apprenticeship is to prepare the next generation of Christian urban leaders. The program is designed as a hands-on learning and training program that will prepare women and men in leadership skills and development, personal and spiritual growth, and hands-on experience while also assisting CSM and city partners in the work of serving often-forgotten people in the city they serve.
Time Frame
8-11 months Though each city can be flexible about how long the experience will be all (8 months or more), the schedule will follow the natural cycle of CSM. Apprentices should expect to begin in October and be in the program through either May (when we finish up our spring season) or August (when we wrap up our busy summer season).
What An Apprentice Will Do:
- Receive direct mentoring by CSM City Staff
- Ministry site service
- Actively participating in the community life of a local urban church
- Leading in CSM ministry
- Living in and engaging with an urban community
- Learning from experienced urban leaders
- Biblical and theological reflection
- Personal vocational discovery
- Conferences and additional educational venues
- Raising personal support
What CSM Will Provide:
- Housing
- Attendance to a key conference
Qualifications
- US citizen or legal worker (I’m sorry but we do not participate in US/Foreign Exchange programs – you must be able to interview on site!)
- At least one year out of high school
- Must be able to subscribe to the CSM Statement of Faith
- Able to present references from a pastor, former supervisor, teacher/professor, close friend
- Ability to understand and work with people of diverse urban cultures toward a common goal.
- Have a proven (though perhaps limited) interest and capacity for leadership
- Be willing to live a simple lifestyle for the year they serve and learn
- Be willing to raise $800 per month in support. Some of the apprentices’ support may come from hosting groups on a limited basis, especially over weekends
- Have a servant’s heart that is willing to submit to authority and respect mentors from a variety of cultures and experiences
