News from the Washington, DC City Director
It has been a busy spring in DC! We have had 300 folks serve with us so far this year. In the midst of the normal comings and goings of our groups, we have taken on a special project to enhance the comfort and safety of our groups. We recently completed 15 new sets of bunk beds. That may not seem like much, but when you start with a room full of lumber, screws, glue and tools, and a week later, you stand in the same room with bunk beds, you have experienced a miracle. Unless you have lived it, you may not know how much of a miracle it is.
Our miracle could not have happened without the generous support of Trinity United Methodist Church in Richmond, VA and the First Baptist Church of Grapevine, TX. Trinity UMC sent money and promised volunteers if needed. FBC Grapevine, not only sent money, but six skilled craftsmen to build the bunks. While here, they also installed a new water fountain, demolished three ancient pianos that were taking up precious bunk bed space, and built shelves in several of the bathrooms and closets, so that we get the best use of the limited space that we have.
The DC site is in the best shape that I’ve seen in 13 years and I’m grateful for all of those that had a part in making it happen!
