News from the New York City Director
For those of you that are familiar with many of our CSM cities, you know that Food Banks play a significant role in the lives of many people and organizations. This is definitely true here in New York City. The Food Bank for NYC, which is located in the borough of the Bronx, is one of our ministry sites. They received a big hit last year when government aid was cut. This summer we, unfortunately, can still see the negative results. The food supplies have been diminishing since last fall and are at an extreme low.
In the past we have sent groups to volunteer at the food bank several times a week—there was always work to do. This summer, because of the low donations, we haven’t had the opportunity to bring any groups to partner with this amazing organization.
The Food Bank for NYC provides resources for over 1,000 organizations throughout the city, which includes food pantries, soup kitchens, and more. Many of CSM’s ministry partners are included in this number. Because of the hit the Food Bank has taken, these places are not receiving the resources needed to help others. This has brought tough times upon the lives of many in New York City. Please join us in praying for provision of resources for the Food Bank, the countless individuals that are affected and the many organizations in the city that are going through difficult times.
