News from the Nashville Team
Spring is here! A time of fresh beginnings, new possibilities, and unexpected beauties...and I am not just talking about in nature. Here at CSM Nashville there are several new partnerships and collaborations coming into “bloom” this season. We wanted to share two which we are incredibly excited about!
After renting space for 10+ years at New Life Baptist Church, there was a mutual understanding that CSM had outgrown our space. Starting this May, we are relocating our housing site/office (where the groups and seasonal staff stay) to Eastland Baptist Church, located in the heart of East Nashville.
Eastland Baptist will be celebrating its 100th year of serving East Nashville next year. They have a genuine desire to reach out to the community surrounding the church and to continually look for ways to be a part of God’s work. Over the last few months, it has been a blessing to meet the members of the congregation, hear their stories, and see the strength of their community.
One of the most exciting parts of moving to Eastland Baptist is our mutual desire for our relationship to be more than just a landlord/renter dynamic. This summer, CSM groups will be assisting Eastland with their VBS, as well as their homeless outreach and clothing room. Please continue to pray for us as we make the necessary renovations and move to the new facility. There is much to be done before the middle of May!- This spring, one of our longstanding ministry partners, Y–CAP, and we have been exploring ways to revise our relationship dynamic from “us serving them” to “us serving with them”. Y–CAP is based in East Nashville and focuses on helping youth learn from their past mistakes and supporting them as they learn to grow in spirit, mind and body.
To initiate this new partnership, Y–CAP agreed to assist some of the renovations of our new space at Eastland Baptist. This past March, fifteen youth came for four hours and relocated furniture, Christmas decorations, electronics, and other odds and ends from the second floor of Eastland Baptist so that we can begin some of our major renovations/cleaning projects. I was thrilled with both their excitement to serve as well as their desire to give 110% to the job. The amount of work they accomplished that afternoon would have taken me, or the average group, weeks.
We are now discussing ways to serve alongside each other this summer as well as looking at the possibility of a group of Y–CAP youth going on a CSM trip in one of our other cities! VERY EXCITING!!!!!

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! It is an exciting time to be a part of CSM-Nashville. We are excited to see what He is going to do this year.

- http://myorangesky.blogspot.com/ This is a personal blog from one of the board members of our ministry site East Nashville Cooperative Ministries. “The Blog provides a forum for reflection on how, and more importantly, through whom, God is working and being revealed in our efforts to resist the symptoms of poverty in east Nashville.”
- http://growingourfuture.blogspot.com “A blog tracing the successes and learned lessons of urban gardening; a blog sharing the local wisdom of preparing and consuming whole foods; a blog about growing a better future together in Nashville. “Growing Our Future” is a blog started by our Garden Manager (at East Nashville Cooperative Ministries), and though he is currently the primary contributor, we hope that it becomes a forum on growing, preparing, and sharing whole food in the Nashville and surrounding areas.” When our groups work at ENCM they are going to be working in the urban gardens and CSM is going to have their own area they are responsible for.
