Nashville Summer Staff Team 2007

Clock-wise: Jason, Katie, Julie, Desirae, Stephanie and Patrick
Desirae Alipour
Desirae is from Charlotte, NC. She is a sophomore at Lee University and has been working in the missions field for over a year and a half now. She has gone to Mexico to build houses for families and to Romania for a month last summer to visit orphanages and evangelize. She has been working with middle school aged kids and high schoolers for the past year as their missions coordinator. Desirae led small groups on her trip to Romania and did multiple leadership tasks. She is very interested in Art of all forms, especially abstract art, creating her own and painting with acrylics. She enjoys bible studies, music, is a huge concert junkie, loves to collect different versions of the bible and vintage shoes, can do a back flip, and loves Thai and Indian food. "I am spending the summer in Nashville because even before I had ever been there, this city was laid on my heart last summer. I had been praying earnestly and hoping to get there soon, when this opportunity to serve at CSM fell in my lap. I foresee an amazing outpour of God's spirit taking over Nashville, and that city being used to transform lives. I am so excited to be a part of this vision."
Katherine "Katie" Gagel
Katie is from Louisville, KY. She majored in organizational communication and minored in social work at Murray State University. She has been involved in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship and has participated in four mission trips including Nassau, Bahamas (twice), London, England, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has also taken two side trips with Adventures in Missions to New Orleans to do Katrina relief. She has been involved in Amnesty International at Murray State University, and is a campaign coordinator for ending the use of child soldiers. Katie has a passion for extreme evangelism, child soldiers, Africa, the homeless, photography, music, and any form of art. This is Katie's second summer in Nashville as a city host - "My prayer this summer is to be stretched. I want to be radical for Jesus." Galatians 2:20.
Stephanie Jones
Stephanie is from Raleigh, North Carolina and is a rising junior at Greensboro College. She is majoring in Middle Grades Education with a Math concentration and a Christian Education minor. She has been on mission trips to Florida, Mexico (4 times), France, and CSM in Nashville. At school she is involved in Student Christian Fellowship, is on the Greensboro College women’s swim team, and is an orientation leader for incoming students. Stephanie has worked with youth through assisting with middle and high school church retreats, and being a counselor at an overnight Christian summer camp in NC. She loves singing along to the radio, laughing, random road trips, listening to country music, and taking fun pictures. “This summer I am really looking forward to helping youth grow closer to God through serving others in a local community. I am eager to serve as Christ’s hands and feet and share His grace with others!”
Jason Korner
Jason is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. This fall he will be a senior at John Brown University majoring in Biblical and Theological Studies. Most of the mission trips he has gone on took place in the inner city - ministering to homeless and children. He has gone on CSM mission trips to Houston and Chicago. In the summer of 2005 he worked as a youth intern at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK, and in the summer of 2006 he served as a youth intern at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa. At both churches he worked with both junior and senior high students. In his spare time Jason enjoys playing golf and throwing around the frisbee. His dream job is to be a Halloween costume model. “By working with CSM I hope to help youth develop a heart for forgotten and marginalized people that inhabit every level of society.”
Julie Martin
Julie is from Ruston, LA, the home of Louisiana Tech University. She has finished her junior year as a Family and Child Studies major with a concentration in Applied Child Development. She has been on two CSM mission trips. The first was to Washington DC with her youth group and the second was with the CSM High School Internship in Chicago. While in college, she attended a month long mission trip to Costa Rica and helped with hurricane relief in Pensacola and New Orleans. Julie has lead two junior high girls' bible studies and volunteers with her youth group whenever they need her. She enjoys playing guitar, singing, sitting in coffee shops and playing with children! "This summer I want to create a passion in the youth's heart for urban ministry."
Patrick Wallace
Patrick Wallace is from Hawesville, KY. He's a sophomore at Murray State University, majoring in Organizational Communication. He has served in Hurricane relief, has led a student worship service at his home church and as well as two youth conferences focused on the injustices of this world. He enjoys playing the drums, driving around the city, playing tennis, and talking with friends. One unique thing about Patrick is that he's half deaf and proud of it! "My goal for this summer is to open the eyes of everyone who enters into the ministry of CSM."
