New York City Summer 2010 Team

From left to right: Jami, David, Steve, Jason, Ramona, Mary-Catherine, Chelsea, Noelle (Co-City Director), Jessica (Apprentice) and Tracee (Co-City Director).

David Arinder
David was born in Dallas, but grew up all over the country. Recently, he finished his junior year of college at the University of Missouri and is transferring to Biola University outside of Los Angeles to finish his undergrad in philosophy. After that, he will be attending seminary at one of the three located in that general area and hopes to become involved in ministry. David loves to read, eating good food, hanging out with friends, watching movies, and just having a good time. He has been involved with different camps and retreats for junior high and high schoolers, and is a part of the worship team at his church drumming for the band. “My goal with CSM is to grow personally and spiritually (is there really a difference?) through exposure to and serving in an urban environment with people from all over the country. Also, I hope God is able to work through me to help others. It will be an awesome summer!”

Mary-Catherine Breed
Mary-Catherine is a junior at Pace University in New York City(which she considers her adopted hometown!). You will never find her without a book and she loves Broadway (even if her bank account doesn’t…). She is majoring in English Literature and Sociology/Anthropology. Mary-Catherine went on several mission trips in high school that had a huge impact on her. She never went on a CSM trip, but working here runs in her family, so she feel like she has been on several! Mary-Catherine’ most recent experience working with teenagers was through the Museum of Jewish Heritage. She taught about the Holocaust in NY Public high schools. Talk about cross cultural experiences! Since coming to the city, she has done long term ministry work with her church and several non-profits. “I love the City and I’ve developped a passion for the people and culture here. I’m so excited to introduce students to my favorite place through ministry!”

Ramona Gant
Ramona is originally from Chicago, IL and is a senior at North Park University, studing Youth Ministry. She has served on multiple mission trips – Flagstaff, AZ; Oaxaca, Mexico; Durban, South Africa; Johannesburg, South Africa; Capetown, South Africa; Zambia; and Chicago, IL with CSM. She has worked with youth since high school, has led Sunday Bible School, was the youth advisor for the 6th-8th grade ministry named T.R.U.T.H Generation, is a former member of a group named Young Warriors for Christ and DISCIPLES (leadership group). Ramona was a youth advisor for retreats with Link Unlimited for high school students, was the parish council representative for the youth in my church consisting of 200 plus youth, and in college, she has volunteered with CSM in Chicago hosting groups. Ramona interned for Inner City Impact in Chicago working with junior high and high school students and has led mission teams. She loves singing even though she can’t, observing people more than talking (yet is outgoing), eating and can cook. “I love youth, I love Jesus and I love God…Through Jesus, I can be with God, minister to youth and for His glory advance the Kingdom. That…makes me a satisfied woman!”

Chelsea Hosler
Chelsea was born and raised in Berwick, PA. She finished her junior year at Grove City College in PA, majoring in Sociology and History. Upon graduating, Chelsea plans on attending graduate school for a Masters in School Counseling. Chelsea is involved with her home church, helping with the youth group, nursery and other children’s ministries. While she was in high school she took many mission trips with her youth group to Belize, KY, ME, and Toronto with CSM. While at college, Chelsea is involved with the homeless ministry of Steel City Ministries, an urban ministry in the city of Pittsburgh. She also has been part of two mission trips to the inner-city of Chicago. While on her trip to Toronto with CSM, Chelsea says her perspective on life was change, and her life was never the same. For that reason she is very excited to serve the people of New York City with the groups that come this summer; she cannot wait to see what God has in store for the students that will experience New York City through CSM.

Jami Howard
Jami is from a little town called Richlands, NC. She is an alumni of Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC where she majored in Theatre Performance/Music. She had the opportunity to work for two summers with a mission camp in North Carolina as a camp counselor/music leader/drama teacher. After graduating from Campbell, she was hired as an interim Theatre teacher in a high school in China Grove, NC. Jamie has always had a big heart for working with youth and the community through Christian theatre and music, in all areas really, and plans on making New York her home. She is a musical theatre nerd and loves to play guitar. “My goal this summer is to experience and learn from the other city hosts and groups about how to truly serve the community through God’s love. I sincerely look forward to meeting all of you, it’s going to be a fantastic summer here at CSM New York!”

Jason Scoles
Jason is from Grand Rapids, MI. He is a sophomore at Grand Rapids Community College. He went to CSM NY in April 2010 and has also been on several mission trips to a Canadian Indian reservation to put on day camps for the kids, and New Orleans in 2009 to help with hurricane Katrina relief. Jason has been interning at his church, working with the youth group for the past two years. He was the assistant coach for a varsity basketball team this past season. Jason loves to play music, learn new instruments and hang out with friends. “My goal in working with CSM is to better know how to work with youth and youth leaders, and to grow in Christ and to learn to better serve the needy. I chose NYC because of my experience with them this spring and how much God taught me there.”

Stephen Walton
Stephen was born in Queens, NY, but grew up most of his life south of Buffalo in Jamestown, NY. He is currently living in Binghamton, NY where he attends Davis College. His major is in Youth Ministries and he will be beginning his senior year this coming fall. Stephen is an RA at college and also serve on a Design Team with the Youth Ministry Dept. In High School, he volunteered with an organization called Project Y.E.S (Youth Engaged in Service), which provided opportunities for teens to volunteer in their community. He did everything from serving food during community events to working with juveniles who had committed misdemeanors. During the past three years, he has worked as an intern with his church’s junior and senior high youth group. Stephen enjoys spending his spare time outdoors, reading a good book, and sipping piping hot coffee with friends. His passion is working with teens and plans to pursue this full-time when he graduates. A dream of his is to someday start a skateboarding ministry to reach young people. “I hope to gain an experience that will both grow me personally and expose me to a different environment in working with teens. My goal is to help the groups live more like Jesus back in their communities by looking beyond their own needs and reaching out to others.”
